6 Brilliant Mind & Heart Opening Books for Truth Seekers

Updated: Mar 24

Books that explore Higher Consciousness, Personal Transformation, Love, Freedom, Ancient Wisdom, & the Nature of Existence.

They have all had significant impacts on my perception of reality, and understandings of the states of consciousness and experiences of existence that are available to humankind when we are willing to transcend our primal and social programming and patterning.

1. Power Vs Force

I was inspired to write this post because I'm currently re-listening to the audiobook, spoken by Hawkins himself, and the clarity and accuracy of the way he examines consciousness through kinesiology is so fascinating and almost unarguable because it's been so thoroughly tested.

Through his 'Map of Consciousness', Hawkins shares a powerful, mind-opening way of interpreting and understanding the stages and levels of consciousness available to humans, and explores how to transcend out of destructive patterns into higher, more positive, and life-supporting states of being.

2. The Forty Rules of Love

The most beautiful, poetic, intelligent and heart-opening novel I have read. Full of Sufi Wisdom and fundamental human and spiritual truth's that speak straight to the heart.

"Two parallel narratives—one contemporary and the other set in the thirteenth century, when Rumi encountered his spiritual mentor, the whirling dervish known as Shams of Tabriz—that together incarnate the poet's timeless message of love." - Goodreads description.

3. Vita Nostra

An incredibly smart and masterfully crafted work of fiction that explores a young woman's awakening of consciousness through a combination of philosophy, science, and fantasy. It is absurd and strange, but seeped in deep truth and wisdom that spoke surprisingly closely to my own personal experiences with inner exploration that are beyond linear and rational comprehension.

At some point on this journey of self-realisation, after studying the mind and the world from many different angles including the rational and scientific, we must simply let go, and surrender to what silence has to show us.

Honest meditation is not self obsession. It is self liberation. It requires a warrior spirit and the courage to let go of all the mechanisms that hols the mind and identity into a limited construct of self, and allow something much more vast and eternal to be acknowledged and embodied.

4. Autobiography of a Yogi

I was past halfway through the book before accepting that it wasn't fictional... It is, as the title suggests, an autobiography.

Yogananda shares his profound, mind-altering, and seemingly impossible experiences of Eastern Mysticism that are so far from what is openly acknowledged in Western culture that it sparked a new level of determination within me to open up to new possibilities of existing, which lead to my commitment to dedicated yogic & meditation practices to assist this.

5. Rumi poetry

The Guest House

' This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes As an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond. '

~ Selected Poems of Rumi

6. The Alchemist

A simple adventure of a man on a quest to find his personal legend, and 'all the forces in the universe conspiring to help him'.

This one is more of a comfort read that is littered with articulate wisdom.

***

As an author myself, a huge driving force behind my passion for writing novels that explore the deeper mysteries of the world, has been to create more stories for women on this path, about women. It's something that I've lacked the opportunity to read and find in the same volume of stories that follow male protagonists.

So, with that said, I'm also going to shamelessly plug my novel ~

Maya of the In-between :)

A young woman's quest for truth and freedom from the tightly controlled iron city she was raised in.

A devastating exploration of climate change and human ignorance.

An awakening of consciousness.

An epic adventure.

And a slow-burn Love Story.

See Book page for more details :)

With Love,
